Texas Floods Devastate Camp, Spark Heroic Acts
The Texas floods have left 81 dead across six counties, with Camp Mystic—a Christian girls’ summer camp—deeply affected. At least 27 campers and counselors perished, and more remain missing.
“Our hearts are broken alongside our families… We are praying for them constantly,” the camp wrote on its website.
Survivors Share Chilling Experiences
Amanda Sue Jones, a flood survivor, told CNN, “In a matter of minutes… campers [were] just being washed away.” She described the water as rising “immeasurably fast,” saying, “It’s almost like a wall of water came through.”
Community Grieves and Unites
Despite the devastation, stories of heroism have emerged. On Sunday, reports surfaced of people dying while trying to save others.
Counselor Saves 14 Lives
Counselor Emma Foltz is being hailed a hero after rescuing 14 campers. “Please join me in thanking Emma for all her hard work and bravery under immense pressure,” wrote Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry.
