Walz Called Out By ICE After Arr
Immigration and Customs Enforcement criticized Minnesota Gov.
Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey after arresting a convicted sex offender who had been living illegally in Minneapolis.
ICE said the arrest followed years of delays caused by local sanctuary-style policies.
The agency identified the man as Mahad Abdulkadir Yusuf, a Somali national unlawfully in the U.S., convicted in 2016 of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
ICE described the offense as “violent and predatory.” Despite the conviction, Yusuf remained free for years.
Agents previously tried to arrest him but were blocked when a building manager denied them access.
After a targeted operation finally led to Yusuf’s arrest, ICE blamed state and city leaders.
“Thanks to the sanctuary policies of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey,
this dangerous criminal was free to prowl the streets,” ICE said, adding, “This is who Governor Walz and Mayor Frey defend.”
Walz and Frey argue such policies build community trust, while ICE says they endanger public safety.
