Sarah Palin was crushed after her 27-year
Sarah Palin rose to national fame in 2008 when John McCain tapped the
little-known Alaska governor as his running mate,
making her a political sensation with outsider appeal.
Raised in Wasilla, Alaska, Palin was a standout athlete and married her high school sweetheart,
Todd, eloping at a courthouse because they “couldn’t afford a wedding.”
She built a life rooted in Alaska, working in journalism, helping with the family fishing business,
and entering politics. In 2006, she became Alaska’s youngest and first female governor.
Todd, known as the “First Dude,” stayed mostly out of the spotlight,
taking on more parenting as Palin’s national profile grew.
Their marriage quietly unraveled, and in 2019 Todd filed for divorce.
Palin later said she learned of it through “an attorney’s email.”
Since the divorce was finalized in 2020, Palin has continued public life,
navigating personal loss while remaining politically active.
