Newly declassified FBI records revive claims that Senator Adam Schiff approved leaks of
classified information during the Trump–Russia investigation.
A whistleblower told the FBI that Schiff “authorized the leaks to
politically damage then-President Donald Trump” between 2017 and 2023.
Key Players
The whistleblower said Rep. Eric Swalwell “likely served as the direct source of the leaks,”
which supported the “Russiagate” narrative.
An FBI summary quoted Schiff telling staffers that classified material derogatory to Trump would be leaked and used to indict him.
Motives and Consequences
The whistleblower alleged Schiff was promised the CIA Director role if Hillary Clinton won in 2016 but continued
“efforts to undermine Trump through strategic leaks” despite her loss.
Government Response
Though reported to the FBI, the Justice Department showed little interest.
Investigative journalist Paul Sperry suggested leaks may have reached Washington Post reporter Ellen Nakashima.
Schiff’s office has not responded publicly.
