Breaking news as a massive fire erupts
Fire Breaks Out
A fast-moving fire tore through Pamplona Alta in San Juan de Miraflores, southern Lima,
on Saturday afternoon. Strong winds and flammable materials caused flames to
spread rapidly across densely packed hillside homes,
forcing residents to flee with children, elderly relatives, and belongings.
Emergency Challenges
Firefighting efforts were hampered by narrow dirt roads,
steep stairways, and limited water supply.
Firefighters carried equipment on foot as
police helped evacuate residents,
while embers ignited nearby structures.
Damage and Displacement
Dozens of homes—possibly more than one hundred—were destroyed,
leaving hundreds displaced. Several people suffered smoke
inhalation and were treated at health centers.
Schools and community spaces became temporary shelters supported by volunteers.
Cause and Recovery
Authorities suspect an illegal fireworks workshop worsened the blaze.
Investigations continue as agencies assess damage and provide aid,
while residents call for safer infrastructure to prevent future disasters.
