Deadly Flash Floods Strike Texas
Severe flash floods hit Kerr County, Texas, during Independence Day celebrations, killing at least 24 people. More than 20 children remain missing after rising waters from the Guadalupe River flooded homes, roads, and campsites near Kerrville.
The river surged to a dangerous 26 feet, overwhelming the area with “an entire month’s worth of rain in just a few hours.”
Ongoing Search and Rescue
Rescue teams continue searching for missing residents. The Kerrville Police Department said, “Hundreds of first responders are here with resources from throughout the state to help us,” and added, “Our thoughts remain with those who are unaccounted for and their loved ones.
They are our focus and will remain so.” Over 230 people have been rescued or evacuated so far. Search efforts use helicopters, boats, and dogs to find survivors.
Summer Camp Among the Worst Affected
Up to 25 children attending Camp Mystic, a summer camp near the flood zone, are still missing. Around 750 campers were present during the floods. The camp was heavily impacted, adding to the urgency of the rescue operations.
