Texas Camp Flood Tragedy
Flash floods struck Camp Mystic, a private Christian girls’ camp in Hunt, Texas, on July 4th, killing five young girls and leaving eleven others missing. The Guadalupe River surged 30 feet above normal, devastating the area. “Richard ‘Dick’ Eastland, 70,” the camp’s director, died while trying to save campers.
Lives Lost
The victims include Renee Smajstrla, 8 (“She will forever be living her best life at Camp Mystic”), Sarah Marsh, 8 (“She will live on in our hearts forever”), and Eloise Peck, 8 (“She passed away with her cabinmate and best friend Lila Bonner”).
Beyond the Camp
Two sisters, Blair (13) and Brooke Harber (11), also died nearby. “We will honor Blair and Brooke’s lives,” said Father Joshua Whitfield.
Ongoing Search & Response
As of Sunday, eleven girls and a counselor remain missing. “I just signed a Major Disaster Declaration for Kerr County,” Donald Trump announced on Truth Social.
