Deadly Flash Flood Hits Texas, Leaving Dozens Dead and Missing
A devastating flash flood struck Kerrville, Texas, on July 4, triggered by a sudden, massive rise in the Guadalupe River. So far, 59 people, including 15 children, have died, and rescue teams continue to search for up to 20 missing children from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp.
The flood, which caused water levels to surge 23 feet in two hours, left the area unrecognizable. One local said, “I’m from here. 33 years old. 3rd time I’ve seen this in my lifetime.” Another recalled a similar tragedy in 1987, when a flood killed 43 campers.
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick stated the missing children are not necessarily “lost,” adding, “they could be out of communication.” The camp currently has no power, water, or WiFi.
Heartbreaking images and viral videos have shown the river engulfing entire areas, with one user posting, “Only a few tree tops can be seen.”
