Horrific Attack on Innocent Dog
In April 2021, a dog named Buddy suffered a brutal act of cruelty when he was set on fire. The Tunica Humane Society described him as a “happy and carefree dog” who was “never a threat to anyone.”
He was found with his face severely burned and an extension cord tied around his neck. A child later admitted to the act, but due to his age—under 12—he could not be prosecuted.
A Long Road to Recovery
Buddy was treated at Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. His injuries were extensive, but his recovery began slowly. Dr. Elizabeth Swanson explained, “Buddy’s vital signs are good but, as with any burn patient, this is very much the bottom of a tall mountain to be climbed.”
Despite the trauma, Buddy remained strong. “We are keeping him comfortable, changing his bandages, and managing any problems as they arise.”
Signs of Healing and Hope
Throughout his treatment, Buddy remained positive. The Humane Society noted, “He continues to move forward daily. Never once disappointing his doctors.”
Surgeons believed he hadn’t lost his eyesight, and while damage to his eyelids would require surgery, there was hope he’d regain vision. “Burn wounds are a very slow process but Buddy is excelling in his healing.”
