Coca‑Cola Fires Back After…
Trump Pushes for Coca-Cola Recipe Change
Former President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that Coca-Cola will start using real cane sugar in its U.S. formula. “I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,” Trump wrote. “This will be a very good move by them – You’ll see. It’s just better!”
A Brief History of Coke’s Ingredients
Coca-Cola has gone through several recipe changes since its 1886 debut, including the removal of cocaine in 1903. Currently, U.S. Coke is sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup, largely due to domestic agriculture subsidies. By contrast, other countries like Mexico and Australia still use cane sugar.
Coca-Cola Responds
Coca-Cola has not confirmed a return to cane sugar but acknowledged Trump’s remarks. A spokesperson told People, “We appreciate President Trump’s enthusiasm for our iconic Coca-Cola brand. More details on new innovative offerings within our Coca-Cola product range will be shared soon.”
Looking Ahead
Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey stated in April that the company aims to cut sugar across its product lines. He noted this effort includes “changing recipes as well as by using our global marketing resources and distribution network to boost awareness of and interest in our ever-expanding portfolio.”
