Disney Legend Passes Away At 95

Richard M. Sherman’s Passing and Legacy
Richard M. Sherman, famed songwriter for classics like Mary Poppins, passed away at 95 in Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Gluck, and their three children.

Awards and Honors
Together with his brother Robert B. Sherman, Richard won two Oscars and three Grammys. The Sherman brothers were also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 and named Disney Legends in 1990.

Disney CEO Bob Iger said, “Richard Sherman was the embodiment of what it means to be a Disney Legend.” Pixar’s Pete Docter admired Sherman’s “infectious joy for life,” while film historian Leonard Maltin noted, “Their music had an upbeat outlook that spilled over into Richard’s life.”

Career Highlights and Funeral Plans
The Sherman brothers created memorable scores for Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Richard’s funeral will be held on May 31 at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California.
