Trump to burn $10M taxpayer-funded birth control

U.S. to Burn $10M in Contraceptives Meant for Aid
The Trump administration is set to destroy nearly $10 million in unused contraceptives funded by U.S. taxpayers, instead of delivering them to global health programs.

The supplies, stored in Belgium, include IUDs, implants, and hormone-based pills, many of which don’t expire until 2027 or later.

Ideological Cuts Over Efficiency
The destruction follows the shutdown of USAID and a shift of foreign aid under the State Department. A congressional aide called it “quite literally burning taxpayer money,” while Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the move as a return to aligned policies.

Ignored Offers to Reuse
Organizations like MSI Reproductive Choices offered to take and distribute the supplies at no cost, but the administration refused. “We were not given a reason,” said MSI’s Grace Dunne.

Global Impact
“This is about exporting an ideology that’s harmful to women,” said Sarah Shaw of MSI. “We’re going to see Senegalese women dying of unsafe abortion.”
