Shot in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the film required Roberts to ditch makeup and wear modest clothing to portray Barbara Weston, a woman grappling with family turmoil.

During one scene, “Ewan’s character held Julia’s hand as they approached a boat dock, preparing for a sheriff to identify a deceased body.” Roberts wore loose blue trousers and a simple blouse, reflecting her character’s emotional depth.
