A Shelter Dog’s Big Day Led to a Forever Home
From Shelter to Station
Bolo, a 3-year-old pit bull mix, arrived at the Hopkinsville Police Department expecting a one-day visit through “Paw-Trol Wednesdays,” a program letting shelter dogs spend time at the station. Public Information Officer Royale Marfil hoped it would help dogs get adopted.
Instant Connection
Despite early hesitation, Bolo quickly won everyone over. “He warmed up to everyone so fast,” Marfil said. His calm energy, wagging tail, and goofy charm made the station feel brighter.
A Permanent Home
When it was time to return to the shelter, Bolo’s sad whimper tugged at hearts. Marfil asked Chief Newby about keeping him. “Yeah, why not?” he said. Bolo was officially adopted and now goes home with Marfil each night.
Officer Bolo’s New Role
In November, he was named the department’s first “Paw-trol Officer.” “It’s as if I’m borrowing the space from him now,” Marfil joked. Bolo is more than a mascot—he’s a symbol of second chances.
