Former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber Dies at 43; No Foul Play Suspected
Death Believed to Be Natural
Jessica Aber, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was found dead in her Alexandria home on March 22 at age 43. Authorities responded to a 9:18 a.m. call and found her unresponsive.
“At this time, detectives have found no evidence suggesting that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes,” Alexandria police stated. The cause of death is pending a final report from the medical examiner.
Career in Public Service
Aber served as U.S. Attorney from 2021 to 2025, overseeing major cases including CIA leaks and fraud involving Russian nationals. A William & Mary Law School graduate, she joined the Justice Department in 2009.
Tributes and Legacy
“She is simply irreplaceable as a human being,” said her successor Erik Siebert. Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares added, “Her work with Ceasefire Virginia saved more lives than we may ever realize.”
Investigation Ongoing
Police confirmed that “the case will remain open” until the medical examiner’s review is complete.
