Trump Fires IRS Commissioner For Attempting To Protect Illegal Aliens
Trump Fires IRS Chief Over Immigration Clash
The Trump administration has sent a clear signal: “The protection of illegal immigrants from enforcement actions will not be accepted.”
IRS Commissioner Billy Long was fired after refusing to fully cooperate with a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) request to verify addresses of 40,000 suspected illegal immigrants using taxpayer data.
The IRS confirmed fewer than 3% — a move seen by Trump allies as obstructing immigration enforcement.
Long insisted the IRS would only share data “within the limited scope of its existing agreements with DHS,” defying a broader directive from Trump expanding ICE’s access.
Shift in Leadership and Policy
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will take over the IRS temporarily. The Treasury thanked Long but emphasized a shift toward “a different course” in line with Trump’s stricter immigration agenda.
IRS Overhaul in Progress
The IRS is also undergoing deep cuts — a 25% workforce reduction — as part of Trump’s broader effort to shrink the agency and enforce immigration law.
