FL Supreme Court Allows Trump’s Suit Agains

Florida Court Allows Trump’s Defamation Case to Proceed

The Florida Supreme Court has rejected the Pulitzer Prize Board’s request to pause a defamation lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump, allowing the case to continue in state court.

Court Declines Jurisdiction

In a brief order, the court wrote:

“It is ordered that the petition for review is denied.

No motion for rehearing will be entertained by the Court.”

Background of the Lawsuit

Trump sued over the board’s 2018 decision to award The New York Times and The Washington Post for coverage of alleged Russian election interference,

calling it a “Russia collusion hoax.”

He claims the reporting was false and damaging to his reputation.

Legal Context & Next Steps

Both lower courts and the state’s high court cited Clinton v. Jones (1997), which held a sitting president isn’t immune from civil lawsuits unrelated to official duties.

No trial date is set, but the case now returns to the trial court.
