Facing Emergency Surgery
Tragedy at Annunciation Church
On August 27, Robin Westman, 23, opened fire during a back-to-school Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis.
Two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed, and 18 others were injured,
including 15 children and three elderly parishioners.

Survivor’s Strength
13-year-old Endre Gunter was shot twice. Before surgery, he asked his doctor,
“Can you say a prayer with me?”
His family’s GoFundMe notes he “showed strength and faith beyond his years,” and the surgeon said Endre’s courage “inspired the entire medical team.”

Shooter’s Motive
Westman, who died by suicide, used three legally purchased firearms.
Authorities are investigating the attack as a possible hate crime. In a notebook, Westman wrote, “I do it because I am sick.”
Ongoing Recovery
Survivors like Endre and 12-year-old Sophia Forchas face long recoveries.
Donations support victims’ medical care and trauma counseling.
The Gunter family extends “deepest prayers and love to the other victims.”
