Teen Dies After Dangerous Online Challenge
Fourteen-year-old Davi Nunes Moreira from Brazil tragically died after attempting a deadly internet trend.
He injected a mixture made from crushed butterfly wings and water into his leg, reportedly for an online challenge.
Seven Days of Pain
Initially, Davi told his father he was injured while playing.
After finding a syringe under his pillow, doctors learned the truth.
Despite treatment, he died after a week of suffering.
Luiz Fernando D. Relvas explained, “It could have been an embolism, an infection, or an allergic reaction.”
Possible Causes
Doctors suspect air bubbles or toxins may have led to organ failure or septic shock.
“There may have been air left inside,” said Relvas. Butterfly expert Marcelo Duarte noted,
“The fluids present in their bodies have not been studied in depth in terms of their toxicity to humans.”
A Growing Threat
Police are investigating.
