FBI’s “Arctic Frost” Probe into Trump Faces Criticism
The FBI memo that launched the Arctic Frost investigation into Donald Trump and
his allies over January 6 activities “lacked substantial evidence and clear legal justification,”
according to former prosecutors and agents who reviewed the newly released document.
The 2022 probe, approved under the Biden administration and later led by Special Counsel Jack Smith,
treated efforts to submit alternate electors as a potential criminal conspiracy.
Critics note the memo relied on CNN interview clips “suggesting” Trump’s involvement.
House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan called the case “the same old weaponization,” comparing it to the discredited Crossfire Hurricane probe.
He argued the investigation reflected partisan motives, saying, “That same mindset… we see now in 2022 with Arctic Frost.”
Smith denies wrongdoing and plans to present his side.
Documents show the probe, authorized by senior FBI officials, led to subpoenas targeting hundreds of Trump allies and Republican groups.
