A Painful Past
Pattie Mallette, mother of Justin Bieber, has lived through struggles that shaped her into who she is today.
As a teenager, she endured years of sexual abuse, which left her with shame and self-blame.
“You carry this shame and feel like there’s something inherently wrong with you.
I definitely carried that burden,” she shared in her memoir Nowhere But Up.
Breaking Point
The trauma, combined with depression and substance abuse, pushed her to attempt suicide.
“It was the result of years of abuse, coupled with depression and substance abuse.
Drugs and alcohol only made things worse. It was a breaking point,” she explained.
Choosing Life
At 17, Mallette became pregnant and faced pressure to have an abortion. Instead, she chose to keep her baby.
A Precious Sound
She recalled hearing Justin cry for the first time: “the most precious sound I’ve ever heard.”
That choice gave her son the chance to become a global star.
