Baby Raccoon Found Alone On A
A Surprise Visitor
In Belchertown, Massachusetts, a homeowner found a tiny, rain-soaked raccoon shivering on the doorstep.
Too young to survive alone, the animal’s situation was critical.
Quick Rescue
Animal Control Officer Sarah Byrnes responded, but no mother raccoon was found nearby.
She wrapped the baby in a towel, placed him in a crate, and arranged transfer to the Leyden Center for Wildlife Rehabilitation.
Care and Recovery
At the center, founder Amelie Dricut-Ziter and her team placed the raccoon in quarantine and began round-the-clock care.
Active and curious, the kit is expected to recover well. He will be fed a natural diet and taught survival skills until ready for release.

A Wider Mission
The Leyden Center is also caring for nearly two dozen other orphaned raccoons.
Supported by donations and volunteers, their goal is clear: give each rescued animal “a second chance at life in the wild.”
