Genital Skin Care: Simple Tips for Everyday Hygiene
The genital area is delicate and needs gentle care to stay healthy.
Here are some practical ways to protect your skin:
1. Wash Gently
Use plain water or an emollient (like aqueous cream, Diprobase, or Doublebase).
Apply it before a bath or shower to protect against soaps and shampoos, then rinse well.
Emollients are safe for daily use—apply at night if your skin feels dry.
2. Let Skin Breathe
Give your genitals some fresh air. In the evening or while sleeping,
skip underwear and wear loose pajama bottoms to allow airflow.
3. Choose Cotton Underwear
Cotton (or cotton gusset) underwear lets skin breathe better than synthetic fabrics,
which can trap heat and cause irritation.
Wash underwear with a mild, non-biological detergent.
