Michigan Teen Suffers Spinal Injuries in High School Football Game
A Michigan high school football game turned tragic when 15-year-old Colton Mims of
Kalamazoo Central was crushed under a much larger Lakeshore player during a junior varsity matchup.
The tackle, captured in viral video, shows the opposing player landing on Colton twice, leaving spectators in shock.
Colton was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he suffered two spinal fractures.
He is on muscle relaxers and under close medical supervision, with his ability to return to football uncertain.
His mother, Courtney Mims, described the scene as overwhelming.
“I’ve never been as upset or shaken up as I was over something for my son,” she said.
“He’s out at least for this season. We don’t know if he’s going to be able to play again… My kid could have been paralyzed easily.”
The family and community are grappling with the impact of the injury on Colton’s football future.
