Diane Keaton became a mother at 50
Diane Keaton: A Life on Her Own Terms
Diane Keaton was one of a kind — fearless, funny, and independent. From a young age, she knew exactly what she wanted.
“I wanted to be a movie star. I wanted people – lots of people I didn’t know – to love me,” she once said.
Born to Jack and Dorothy Hall in Southern California, Keaton enjoyed a happy childhood before studying drama and heading to New York.
Her career exploded in the 1970s with The Godfather and Annie Hall, which won her an Oscar.
Motherhood came later. After her father’s death, she reflected, “I only hope that I can engage life like he engaged death.”
At 50, she adopted Dexter and later Duke.
“I’m so thankful to have been adopted by such a strong, beautiful, and talented woman,” Dexter once wrote.
Keaton never married — “No one has ever asked me to marry them” —
but she lived exactly as she chose, leaving behind a legacy of brilliance and authenticity.
