Greta Thunberg’s Ordeal in Israel
1. Detention at Sea
Greta Thunberg, 22, was detained in Israel after joining a flotilla of more
than 40 boats carrying aid to Gaza,defying the naval blockade.
She was held alongside Mandla Mandela and several European politicians.
2. “Confined in Metal Cages”
Thunberg described harsh treatment during custody, saying detainees were “confined in metal cages” and “forced to stand overnight.”
She claimed guards kicked her and called her a “whore,” adding,
“They roughly shoved me into a corner, facing the wall.”
3. Offensive Graffiti
Greta said guards wrote “Whore Greta” on her suitcase beside an Israeli flag drawing,
mocking her while she “begged” for water in 40°C heat.
4. Israel’s Response
Israel’s Foreign Ministry dismissed her claims as “ludicrous and baseless,”
stating that “all of her legal rights were fully upheld” and that she “never lodged any complaint.”
