Shock Photo Of NYC Mayoral Candidate
Zohran Mamdani Faces Backlash Over Meeting with Controversial Imam
New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is under fire after appearing with Imam Siraj Wahhaj,
a Brooklyn religious leader once named an “unindicted co-conspirator” in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
Mamdani shared a photo from the meeting on X, writing, “Today at Masjid At-Taqwa,
I had the pleasure of meeting with Imam Siraj Wahhaj… A beautiful Jummah.”
Wahhaj, who has denied supporting violence,
has previously called for an “army of 10,000 men” to wage a nonviolent “jihad” in New York City,
saying, “Don’t pick up a gun, no. Just march.”
He has also described the LGBTQ community as “a disease of this society.”
According to an intelligence report, Wahhaj’s past rhetoric and ties to extremists pose
“a direct national security threat to New York City.”
Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa condemned Mamdani’s association, saying,
“New York needs a mayor who protects New Yorkers from terrorism, not embraces terrorists.”
