The Making of the “Night Stalker”: From Innocent Boy to Infamous Killer
Born on February 29, 1960, in El Paso, Texas, Richard Ramirez appeared to have an ordinary childhood.
But behind closed doors, his father’s violent abuse and repeated head injuries left deep scars.
As punishment, he was tied to a cemetery crucifix overnight.
At 15, Ramirez witnessed his cousin Miguel shoot his wife in the face — a moment that marked his descent into darkness.
He soon dropped out of school, turned to drugs, and began committing burglaries.
By the 1980s, Ramirez had become the “Night Stalker,” breaking into California homes to kill and assault victims of all ages.
He left Satanic symbols at crime scenes and taunted survivors to “swear on Satan.” His yearlong spree terrified the state.
Captured in 1985 after being beaten by residents, Ramirez was later convicted of 13 murders and sentenced to death.
He died in 2013 from cancer, showing no remorse to the end.
