Former Georgia PSC Candidate Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Georgia Power Documents
ATLANTA, Ga. – Former Democratic Public Service Commission
candidate Patty Durand was arrested Tuesday and charged with felony theft
after Georgia Power accused her of stealing trade secrets, according to Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB).
Video footage from a PSC hearing reportedly shows Durand, wearing a brown jacket,
picking up a booklet from one desk, then taking another and placing it in her bag before leaving the room.
The materials are believed to contain confidential company information related to Georgia Power’s request to expand energy capacity for data centers.
Durand, who runs Georgia Utility Watch and Georgians for Affordable Energy,
has long criticized Georgia Power’s lack of transparency.
“The Public Service Commission allows very heavy redactions and trade secrets,” she told GPB in August.
Georgia Power said it is cooperating with authorities as the investigation continues.
Durand has not yet commented publicly.
