Newsom: California will ‘immediately’
Newsom Vows Legal Fight Over Trump’s National Guard Plan
California Governor Gavin Newsom has vowed to take
“immediate legal action” against any attempt by former President Donald Trump to send National Guard troops to San Francisco.
Calling the move “an assault on state sovereignty,”
Newsom said, “We don’t bow to kings, and we’re standing up to this wannabe tyrant.”
Despite Trump calling the city a “mess,” reports show San Francisco’s crime rates are down,
with homicides at a decades-long low and the economy rebounding thanks to the AI boom.
Mayor Daniel Lurie and District Attorney Brooke Jenkins also rejected Trump’s idea,
noting federal law bars Guard troops from acting as police.
State officials are already preparing a lawsuit to block the plan,
continuing efforts that began during earlier protests. The dispute sets up a major legal battle over federal versus state power.
