Supreme Court Gives Donald Trump
Supreme Court Backs Trump on Immigration Policy
President Donald Trump secured a major Supreme Court victory as justices voted 8–1 to lift a lower court
order blocking his move to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for about 300,000 Venezuelan migrants.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the lone dissenter.
Court’s Reasoning
Solicitor General John Sauer argued the lower court “exceeded its jurisdiction,”
saying the issue involved “particularly discretionary, sensitive, and foreign-policy-laden judgments of the Executive Branch.”
Policy Changes
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem revoked Venezuela’s TPS designation,
stating it “no longer satisfies the criteria” and that continued protection was “against the national interest.”
The decision reverses extensions issued under former Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Impact and Next Steps
The ruling allows immediate deportations to proceed.
DHS reports over 527,000 deportations and 1.6 million voluntary departures since Trump took office in January 2025, figures expected to rise with added resources.
