Dave Portnoy threatens to pull Barstool
Portnoy Threatens Manhattan Exit
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy says he may close the company’s Manhattan
office following Zohran Mamdani’s election

as New York City mayor, calling the 34-year-old Democratic socialist a
“Communist” who will “wreck the business climate.”

Strong Opposition
“I hate the guy,” Portnoy said during a livestream.
“Thirty-something-year-old Communist running New York City who’s never had a job in his life,

hates America — doesn’t seem like the best.”

Considering a Move
Portnoy said he’s asked his finance team to look for office space in Hoboken or Jersey City,
admitting he’s “given it a lot of thought” but doesn’t want to disrupt employees’ lives.

Political Backdrop
Mamdani, who ran on rent freezes and public housing expansion,
represents a leftward shift in city politics.

Portnoy, whose company is valued around $600 million,
said he might relocate Barstool “to take a principled stand.”
