NY Attorney General Letitia James Faces Scrutiny Over Virginia Properties
New York Attorney General Letitia James is under federal investigation for allegedly misrepresenting
information on mortgage documents for properties she owns in Norfolk, Virginia,
which house several family members with criminal histories.
Among them is her grand-niece, Cayla Thompson-Hairston, 21,
who faced charges in April 2024 for providing false information while attempting to purchase a firearm.
Prosecutors later dismissed the case after her prior malicious wounding charge was reduced to a misdemeanor.
Thompson-Hairston also maintains an active social media presence,
including OnlyFans, and has a fugitive status in North Carolina.
James allegedly declared one property as a “second home” while placing family members there,
collecting rent, and obtaining a lower mortgage rate—
actions prosecutors claim contradicted her statements to lenders.
She faces up to 60 years in prison on federal bank fraud and false statement charges.
James has denied wrongdoing, while Thompson testified she lived in the home rent-free.
