Young Woman Killed by Stray Bullet in Fifth Street Shooting
Tragedy struck Monday evening when 20-year-old Mariana Gómez
was fatally hit by a stray bullet during a shooting on Fifth Street.
What began as an ordinary day in a busy commercial district “quickly descended into chaos”
as gunmen opened fire, killing two people, including Mariana—an innocent bystander.
According to police, the shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m.
when armed men targeted a local merchant in what appeared to be a deliberate attack.
Mariana, who was reportedly on her way to submit a résumé for a job, was caught in the crossfire.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as “shoppers and residents scrambled for cover.”
A bullet struck Mariana in the abdomen,
and though bystanders rushed her to a nearby hospital,
she died within minutes despite doctors’ efforts.
Authorities are investigating the shooting and searching for those responsible.
