At Least Four Dead in Public Shooting
Campus Shooting
On Saturday, December 13, 2025, a “winter afternoon”
at Brown University turned deadly when gunfire erupted inside the Barus & Holley engineering building,
ending what had been a “routine academic day.”
Casualties and Lockdown
Two students were killed and nine wounded as police rushed in.
Brown issued emergency alerts and ordered a “campus-wide lockdown,”
while students sheltered and parents anxiously sought updates.
Investigation
Authorities said the gunman “fled on foot.” Providence police, state agencies, and the FBI reviewed surveillance,
interviewed witnesses, released images of a person of interest, and offered a “$50,000 reward.”
Investigators also examined a possible link to another killing, though “no link was confirmed.”
Aftermath
Vigils, counseling, and memorials followed. As classes resume,
the university faces a “long road toward healing” while the search for justice continues.
