Gunfire broke out at Brown University on Saturday, December 13, 2025,
inside the Barus & Holley engineering building, turning “a routine academic day” into panic as students fled and barricaded themselves while police rushed in.
Authorities later confirmed that “two students had been killed and nine others wounded,” with the suspect fleeing on foot.
The university issued emergency alerts and imposed a campus-wide lockdown as helicopters circled and families sought information.
Classes and events were canceled while students sheltered in place.
After the lockdown ended, the campus grew quiet as memorials appeared and counseling services expanded.
Law enforcement launched a large investigation, releasing images of a person of interest and offering a reward, though “no immediate arrest was made.”
As the investigation continues, Brown faces ongoing grief, safety concerns, and a slow path toward healing.
