Who Is Rama Duwaji, Wife of
Rama Duwaji has drawn public attention as the wife of newly elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani,
though she has largely remained private. A Brooklyn-based artist,
Duwaji met Mamdani in 2021 on Hinge, and they married at the City Clerk’s office in early 2025.
As Mamdani’s victory brought scrutiny, he defended her in a May 2025 Instagram post, writing,
“Rama isn’t just my wife, she’s an incredible artist who deserves to be known on her own terms.”
Duwaji declined press interviews after the primary, telling The New York Times the attention felt overwhelming.
Born in the U.S. and raised partly with Syrian roots, she once said,
“I was born in the States and lived here till I was nine.”
Her art explores identity, sisterhood, and community,
with clients including The New Yorker and Tate Modern.
While social media has praised her appearance and poise,
Duwaji continues to define herself primarily through her work and values, not political spotlight.
