He Was A Hollywood Star In The ’80s
Actor Gary Busey, famous for portraying Buddy Holly in The Buddy Holly Story, built early success but faced major personal and health struggles.

In 1988, a motorcycle crash left him with severe brain injury. He recalled, “I had an accident… split my skull… and went to the other side.”

Recovery was intense—his son said, “He was a vegetable… I had to teach him… to talk… To walk again.” Despite this, Busey said, “it was part of my journey.”

He later battled addiction, calling an overdose “dancing with the devil,” and survived cancer that required

surgery and radiation, which “distorted my face.” Reconstructive surgery helped restore his appearance.

Financial troubles led to bankruptcy in 2012, and his career shifted to smaller roles. Now in his eighties, Busey has found stability, crediting his wife for changing him “in a great way.”
