Two Children Among Dead As Floodwaters

Flood Follows Fire in Ruidoso

Still recovering from last year’s wildfires, Ruidoso, New Mexico, was struck by devastating flash floods on July 8 due to heavy monsoon rains.

Widespread Damage

Floodwaters destroyed homes and businesses, causing gas leaks, mudslides, and over 30 swift-water rescues.

Mayor Lynn Crawford called it “one of the worst” disasters the town has faced, adding, “Last year we had a bad one or two, but this one was right there with it.”

Lives Lost

Three deaths were officially reported—a man in his 40s–50s, a seven-year-old boy, and a four-year-old girl. Community members shared more losses, including five-year-old Charlotte and seven-year-old Sebastian Trotter. “The entire Village of Ruidoso extends our deepest sympathy and compassion,” Crawford stated.

Ongoing Response

Officials urged residents in safe areas to remain there and report missing loved ones. The community continues to support search efforts while mourning the tragedy.
