Mikayla Raines, Founder of Save a Fox, Dies by Suicide
Mikayla Raines, founder of the Save a Fox rescue and a beloved YouTuber, has died by suicide. Her husband, Ethan Raines, shared the heartbreaking news in a video posted on June 23, 2025. Mikayla struggled for years with depression and borderline personality disorder, made worse by relentless online bullying.
“She was deeply sensitive,” Ethan said. “And while that made her incredibly empathetic, it also meant she absorbed every cruel word.” Despite facing attacks—even from others in the animal rescue community—she continued her mission until, as Ethan said, “it went too far.”
A Life Dedicated to Foxes
Mikayla’s passion for animals started at 15 after she met her first fox. She left college to fully commit to rescuing and caring for animals. Over the years, she saved hundreds of foxes and led a major effort to shut down a fur farm.
Community Mourning and Tributes
Following the news of her death, supporters, animal rescuers, and fans flooded social media with tributes. Many praised her for her compassion, courage, and dedication to animal welfare. She was remembered not just for her rescue work, but also for her role as a mother to her daughter, Freya.
Her Legacy Lives On
Though Mikayla is gone, her impact remains. The animals she saved and the people she inspired will carry her legacy forward. As Ethan expressed, her deep empathy and strength left a mark on countless lives.
