McConaughey Praised for Respectful Gesture at Wimbledon
Matthew McConaughey earned praise for his respectful gesture toward Prince William and Princess Kate at the Wimbledon men’s final. The Oscar-winning actor stood up when the royals arrived, prompting Wimbledon to share the moment online.
One fan commented, “Matthew McConaughey standing to applaud the Prince & Princess of Wales. What a lovely southern gentleman.” Another added, “Matthew was raised right. Always something I have always admired.”
A Star-Studded Crowd
The match drew a celebrity crowd, including Nicole Kidman and Paul Mescal, along with McConaughey, who was seated just behind the royal family. William and Kate attended with Prince George and Princess Charlotte to watch Jannik Sinner defeat Carlos Alcaraz, making Sinner the first Italian to win a Wimbledon singles title.
Royal Interactions with Players and Fans
After the match, Sinner said it was “amazing” to meet the royal family, adding, “I’ve been lucky to meet her (Kate) and the whole family, and it was a very nice moment.” The royals also signed tennis balls for young fans.
During the trophy ceremony, Kate presented medals and spoke to ball kids on court. A spectator shouted, “I love you, Kate,” as she passed. The princess, recently declared cancer-free, was warmly received.
