Powerful Earthquake Strikes Caribbean
A strong 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Caribbean Sea near Honduras and the Cayman Islands, shaking the region. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said it occurred at 6:23 p.m., about 20 miles north of Honduras and 130 miles southwest of the Cayman Islands.
Tsunami Alert Issued
Authorities quickly issued a tsunami warning for the Cayman Islands. The quake “sent shockwaves through the region and prompted tsunami warnings,” raising concerns about aftershocks and further risks.
Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands Safe
The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that “the Tsunami Advisory for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands is now canceled.” They advised caution near water, warning that “strong and unusual currents may continue.”
