Country music legend and actor Kris Kristofferson died at 88 in his Maui home on September 28, surrounded by family, according to PEOPLE. His family shared, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully… Thank you for loving him all these many years.”
From Soldier to Songwriter
Born in 1936 in Texas, Kristofferson was a Rhodes Scholar and U.S. Army helicopter pilot before turning to music.
Breakthrough in Music
After moving to Nashville in the ’60s, he worked odd jobs while pitching songs. He rose to fame with hits like “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down.” He later joined the iconic group The Highwaymen.
Success in Film
Kristofferson starred in A Star Is Born (1976), earning a Golden Globe, and retired from public life in 2021.
