Shooting Incident
On July 28, Shane Tamura, 27, opened fire in the lobby of 345 Park Avenue, New York, killing four people before shooting himself.
Among the victims was Officer Didarul Islam, 36, who was fatally shot while on security duty. Several others were injured, including an NFL employee in critical condition.
The Suicide Note
Authorities found a multi-page suicide note where Tamura expressed anger at the NFL, blaming football-related brain disease CTE.
The note said, “Terry Long football gave me CTE, and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze.” He also wrote, “CTE chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Study my brain please I’m sorry.”
Remembering Officer Islam
Officer Islam was praised as a hero. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said, “He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He made the ultimate sacrifice.
” Mayor Eric Adams added, “He was a person of faith… He embodies what this city is all about.”
Background and Investigation
Tamura had a history of mental illness and drove over 2,500 miles from Las Vegas to New York before the attack.
He once excelled in high school football but struggled later. The NYPD confirmed he acted alone, and the investigation continues.
