Concerns Over Migrant Relocation in Waterlooville
Plans to move 35 asylum seekers to new flats above shops in Waterlooville, Hampshire, have left residents worried. The town, known for its struggling high street, fears the arrival could bring “chaos to the streets.”

No Local Consultation and Rising Tensions
The Home Office’s plan to reduce migrant hotel use by spreading people across towns was done without talking to the local council. Residents, calling Waterlooville a “zombieland,” are preparing protests like those seen in Epping and Canary Wharf.

Community Fears and Safety Concerns
Steve, 58, expressed his worries: “I’ve got a 13-year-old granddaughter… I think it will attract trouble for us as well as the migrants.” He also warned protests might backfire, saying, “I don’t want people to start smashing things up because that plays into the hands of the Home Office and police.”

About the New Development
The flats, called Waterloo House, are owned by Mountley Group. The director, Hersch Schneck, also runs a migrant hotel nearby, linking the company closely to local migrant housing.
