Judge Issues Restraining Order Against Texas
Judge Blocks O’Rourke’s Fundraising for Fleeing Lawmakers
A Texas judge issued a temporary restraining order against Beto O’Rourke and his nonprofit, Powered by People, for allegedly raising money illegally to support Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to stop GOP redistricting.
Illegal Fundraising Claims
Judge Megan Fahey called the group’s activities “unlawful fundraising practices” involving travel, lodging, and fines. “Consumers have and continue to suffer irreparable harm… through these unlawful acts,” she wrote.
Political Reactions
O’Rourke fired back, saying Paxton is targeting him because his group defends voting rights. “He wants to silence me and stop me from leading this organization.” Paxton responded, “You lost in court because you’re breaking the law and deceiving Texans.”
Ongoing Legal Battle
Paxton is also investigating the Texas Majority PAC. Meanwhile, O’Rourke filed a countersuit, accusing Paxton of conducting a political “fishing expedition.”
