Thirteen councils to take action
Councils Move to Ban Asylum Hotels After Court Ruling
Following a surprise High Court ruling in favor of Epping Forest District Council, thirteen councils plan to stop the use of hotels for housing asylum seekers.
The court granted Epping a temporary injunction, allowing it to evict asylum seekers from local hotels. The Home Office warned the move could “interfere” with its legal duties, while hotel owners argued it sets a “dangerous precedent.”
The case comes amid rising tensions and protests in Epping over asylum housing. Nigel Farage responded by saying all Reform UK-led councils will do “everything in their power” to block asylum hotels.
Some Conservative-run councils are now joining the effort, including:
- Kent
- Derbyshire
- Nottinghamshire
- West and North Northamptonshire
- Lincolnshire
- Broxbourne
- Staffordshire
- Durham
- Hull & East Yorkshire
- Greater Lincolnshire
- Doncaster
This ruling could influence how local governments manage asylum accommodation nationwide.
