Rest in peace Jessica Joven dies
Tragedy in Chicago Suburb
On Monday evening, 20-year-old Mariana Gómez was killed by a stray bullet during a shooting on Fifth Street.
She had been on her way to deliver a résumé when gunmen opened fire,
also killing the intended target, a local shopkeeper.
Police Response
Officers quickly arrested a 17-year-old suspect, already known for violent crimes.
Colonel Jorge Medina stated: “The young woman had absolutely no connection to the attack—
she was an innocent victim.”
Family & Community Grief
Mariana’s mother said tearfully: “She only wanted to deliver her résumé.
She was full of dreams and wanted to help us. Her life was taken for nothing.”
Residents, shaken by rising gang violence, demanded stronger security,
declaring: “We can’t keep living in fear.”
Wider Impact
Experts warn that youth crime reflects deeper social failures.
Mariana’s death is now a symbol of the urgent call for justice and safer communities.
