Australia Faces “Triple Outbreak” of Flu, COVID-19, and RSV
Australia is battling a “triple outbreak” of influenza, COVID-19, and RSV,putting heavy pressure on hospitals and clinics.
Doctors report a surge in cases, especially among children and the elderly,
as families struggle with weeks-long illnesses disrupting schools and workplaces.
Epidemiologist Dr. Catherine Bennett said this year’s flu season peaked later than usual,
overlapping with other viruses and prolonging recovery times.
She explained that the mix of circulating infections has “significantly increased the burden on families and healthcare providers.”
Experts link the rise to weather changes, relaxed precautions, and international travel,
which have fueled virus transmission nationwide.
Despite the strain, Professor Peter Collignon offered reassurance: while infections won’t disappear soon,
cases should decline by mid to late October.
He urged calm, saying there’s “no need for panic”—just continued care and vigilance to protect the vulnerable.
