Nebulasexual: When Attraction Feels “Clouded”
As language around identity expands, nebulasexual has emerged to describe people—often neurodivergent—whose sense of attraction feels unclear or hard to define.
The term comes from “nebula,” meaning “clouded,” and reflects how those with autism,
ADHD, or OCD may struggle to separate sexual, emotional, or aesthetic attraction.
Autism Nottingham explains that nebulasexuals “cannot tell if they experience sexual attraction or not due to neurodivergency or intrusive thoughts.”
Online, many relate to this. One user wrote, “I get feelings, but I don’t know what they mean!
Nebulasexual checks out.” Another shared, “As someone with ADHD, I can’t tell if I’m attracted or just hyperfixating.”
Critics say such labels overcomplicate identity, but supporters argue they give people language to feel understood.
For many, nebulasexuality isn’t confusion—it’s recognition of how their brains experience attraction differently.
